Delcam’s updated PowerInspect software is suited for checking the dimensions of parts, prototypes and tooling against CAD data. The hardware-independent software features a new interface for undertaking “simple” measurements such as determining the distance between two points, planes or the centers of two circles. It can also check the thickness of a section. Points are said to be easier to add or delete during an inspection from a set of measurements defining any feature.
Improvements have also been made to the way the software uses data within geometric features. The attributes of each point in a sequence can be displayed separately, either as dots or as needles proportionate in length to the extent of the deviation, so problem areas are obvious, the company says. Individual points can be within more than one feature. For example, two sets of points can be used to check the circles at the top and bottom of a cylinder, then combined to produce the inspection report for the cylinder itself.
Further enhancements increase the software’s flexibility, the company says. Feature measurements can be displayed as surface points for comparison with the CAD model, making it easier to spot errors, the company says. Another enhancement is the ability to halt an inspection during the measurement process. This allows the operator to produce a report as soon as the part is found to be out of tolerance rather than having to complete the full sequence of measurements.
