ShadowGage is designed to measure features such as diameters, lengths and grooves on the contour of small precision parts, and then automatically separate the acceptable parts from the rejects. Single-camera systems can measure either the profile or top view of the parts, while two-camera systems can measure both views simultaneously.
According to the company, the machines can measure with an accuracy of ±0.0001" at a rate as fast as 7,200 parts/hr. Because the software recognizes the part’s orientation and then executes the appropriate measurements, parts can be loaded onto the machine manually or from a vibratory feeder, without regard to orientation.
