Schunk says its Sino-R toolholder is maintenance-free and well-suited for rough milling applications. The universal toolholder is based on an expansion technology system in which a solid body pressure medium quickly clamps the cutting tool via an actuation wrench. This operation is said to save machine downtime.
High radial rigidity and damping characteristics are said to smooth tool operation, which increases tool life and metal removal rates. Flexibility is provided through intermediate sleeves, and nearly all common tool shank diameters can be clamped. The toolholder features a maximum torque transmission of 850 Nm (627 foot-pounds) at a clamping diameter of 1.25" (32 mm). It is precision-balanced to G 6.3 at 15,000 rpm.
