Mazak’s Megaturn Nexus 900M combines turning and secondary machining operations to efficiently cut large cast iron and steel workpieces such as those used in jet engine manufacturing, and construction and industrial machinery. Designed for heavy-duty machining, the vertical turning center features a 40-hp (30-kW), 1,250-rpm integrated main-drive motor/spindle capable of generating 2,696 foot-pounds of torque. It accommodates workpieces ranging to 36.2" × 31.5" (919 × 800 mm) and weighing as much as 6,614 lbs, including the chuck.
Mazak’s MX hybrid roller-guide system provides durability and reliability for long-term accuracy. The system also damps vibration to extend tool life. According to the company, the turning center handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates quickly to shorten cycle times, and consumes less oil for more environmentally friendly operation. An optional two-pallet changer enables continuous machining.
A 12-position drum turret is clamped by 16.7 tons of force on a 12.99" (330 mm) high-index coupling, enabling high-performance machining and intermittent cutting. Rotary tool spindle speed ranges to 4,000 rpm and 70.2 foot-pounds of torque. Mazak’s Tool Eye automatic tool-presetting system automatically performs offset of tool nose position, tool measurement and data registration for accurate, fast part setup. The Tool Eye can also be programmed to monitor tool wear on a periodic basis. In addition, the machine is equipped with Mazak’s Mazatrol Maxtrix Nexus CNC with 12" (305 mm) LCD color display for conversational programming and EIA input.
