Horn USA’s Supermini cutting tool’s new substrate, coating and edge preparation is said to provide high-performance results in small diameters. The development is in response to demands from customers who work with materials that are difficult to machine and require greater throughput, the company says. In trials, the new substrates and coatings resulted in longer tool life. The EG35 grade has demonstrated as much as 60 percent longer tool life when turning cobalt chrome at 1,000 N/mm2. This grade enables the tool to machine diameters ranging from 0.2 to 6.8 mm (0.008" to 0.268") in tough materials while increasing return on investment, the company says.
