The S31 HSM grinder is designed for internal and external cylindrical grinding of mid-sized workpieces in one clamping. According to manufacturer Studer, the machine’s C axis and StuderFormHSM software module enables it to machine curves and polygons on even complex, out-of-round workpieces. Applications include drive shafts, gears for pumps, molds for plastics, guide pins, tool fixtures and more.
The machine is designed to machine virtually any conceivable outer and inner geometrical contours, and the software module calculates all corresponding technology data. Axis motions and acceleration values that fall outside the machine’s capabilities are visualized to enable optimal feeds and speeds when machining each area of an out-of-round form.
In addition, the software contains various corrections and analysis options for detection of form errors and bug fixing. It also contains commonly used geometry macros, and these forms can be extended with additional customer-specific macros. The import of optional geometry macros is supported by DXF, IGES, VDAFS, ISO and other formats. The software also supports polar and Cartesian coordinates and excel lists, as well as spline and smoothing functions.
