With a gantry design and a 630-mm-diameter tilting rotary table, Hermle Machine’s C 30 U is capable of simultaneous five-axis machining of workpieces as large as 800 mm. According to the company, the machine is useful for producting hip stems, trauma bone plates, cranial and spinal plates and other medical and orthopedic components. The machine features a rotational speed of 65 rpm in the C axis andÌý25 rpm in the tilting,Ìýtrunnion-type A axis. For increased production of small parts, the machine can be equipped with a 280-mm-diameter rotary table mounted on the A axis. The rotary table operates at speeds as fast as 40 rpm, and the tilting A axis can be actuated at 55 rpm.
Ìý
X-, Y- and Z-axis travels are 650 ×Ìý600 × 500 mm, andÌýrapid traverse ratesÌýin each axis are 45 m per minuteÌýin the standard machine and 60 m per minute in the dynamic version. Acceleration is 0.6G and 1G, respectively. Standard spindle speed of 10,000 rpm, with optional speeds of 18,000, 28,000, and 40,000 rpm, extends the range of capabilities from high-torque, hard-metal operations to high speed machining of complex parts, the company says.
Ìý
C-axis actuation uses a direct-drive torque motor (630-mm design only), and both A and C axes feature the company’s drive system. Also, the machine is equipped with 32 tool pockets. Optional magazine extensions can increase capacity to 75, 119 or 195 tools. Chip-to-chip toolchange timeÌýis 4.5 seconds.
