Delcam will highlight the five-axis capabilities of its latest PowerMill release, including more options for tool-axis definition. The lead and lean angles can be defined relative to a contact normal for raster tool paths.
 
According to Delcam, the release offers improved control for the tool-axis definition when using the To or From a Point, Line or Curve strategies. Users can more easily control the contact angle between the cutter and the part and set the optimum cutting conditions for efficient machining and high-quality surface finish. The resulting NC programs can be made more efficient by automatically reordering the tool paths, using the tool number or diameter to reduce the number of tool changes, or using a specific workplane to minimize setup changes.
 
The company will also showcase the five-axis strategies available in Feature CAM 2013, including flowline machining between two curves, pencil machining and corner remachining, as well as updates to PartMaker 2013 R2, including the advanced surface machining multi-axis (ASM-MX) module.
