Available from Yama Seiki, the high-performance Goodway SW series of Swiss-type turning centers enables flexible operations such as turning, milling and cross drilling for workpieces smaller than 42 mm in diameter. Machines in the SW series include the SW-20 with a 20-mm maximum machining diameter; the SW-32 with a 32-mm maximum machining diameter; and the SW-42 with a 42-mm maximum machining diameter.

The turning centers feature FANUC high-performance spindles and servomotors, and the modular spindle construction enables the use of a bush-type or bushless-type spindle, depending on application requirements. The bush-type spindle can be rotated at high speeds to increase working performance with less surface damage, while the bushless design is suitable for machining cold-forged bar with a remaining bar length of less than 50 mm.

Fully enclosed splashguards keep chips and coolant contained for a safe, clean working environment. C3 class hardened and precision-ground ballscrews promote accuracy, and pre-tension on all axes minimizes thermal distortion for durability, the company says. Piston distributors are said to be maintenance-free and deliver a precise quantity of oil to lubricate all slideways, ballscrews and vital components. The piston distributors are non-clogging and automatically shut off during idling to minimize waste. The turning centers can also be equipped with a subspindle, live tooling and a bar feeder. An optional A/C unit is available for controlling temperature and humidity inside the electrical cabinet.
