Makino’s Inertia Active Control (IAC) technology for HMCs optimizes B-axis rotation of the direct-drive rotary table to reduce non-cut time and improve efficiency. The technology is available on the company’s a51nx and a61nx 40-taper HMCs, which feature pallet sizes of 400 mm and 500 mm, respectively.
The company’s direct-drive rotary table design provides inertia feedback from the B-axis motor to the HMC’s control system. While acceleration and deceleration rates for standard rotary tables are typically set for maximum inertia and weight to ensure accuracy, IAC uses data from the direct-drive rotary table to quickly evaluate and adjust acceleration and deceleration settings to optimal levels for the specific pallet condition, the company says.
