Emuge’s thread-making tools are available with the Self-Lock integrated locking system. The threading tools are designed for thread locking in vital safety applications in industries including aerospace, medical, communications and transportation.
The thread-locking feature is integrated in the internal thread. A modified profile with a 30-degree ramp surface in the direction of stress provides the self-locking effect. In an ideal screw connection for high-stress situations, a standard external thread is in a Self-Lock internal thread, and the internal thread yields a self-locking screw connection that can be used repeatedly.
The thread’s special profile evenly distributes stress over the entire thread length, eliminating slippage without stripping threads. It does not require additional components, so it is cost-effective, the company says.
Compared with standard threads, Self-Lock internal threads are said to show constant, maximum holding power under dynamic stress. Functions remain in good operation even with repeated loosening and tightening of the thread connection, according to the company.
This technology increases threading tool life for larger thread-hole diameters and provides larger tolerances for thread-hole diameters. The system is designed so that assembly errors such as forgetting the locking device are not possible. To gage these threads, the company recommends a two-piece gage system which corresponds to the usual combination of a go/no-go gage.
The threading tools work with standard external threads (screws) with tolerance class "medium."Related Content
