Agathon has introduced the Neo roughing laser for accelerated processing rates and savings on indexable insert production. The laser has three mechanical axes and three optical axes for processing the periphery, clearance angles and chipbreakers. It is designed to be easy to use without prior laser processing knowledge. A thermally stabilized construction accommodates sustained production operations. The company says the roughing laser delivers 100-fold higher material removal rates compared to grinding, resulting in PCD products that are just a few hundredths of a millimeter away from the final dimension and can be completed with a finishing grinding machine. This can reduce PCD processing times by as much as 60 percent, according to the company.
