Hurco’s VMX24HSi and VMX42HSi machining centers are designed for speed, accuracy and repeatability, the company says. The X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 24" × 20" × 24", respectively, on the VMX24HSi and 42" × 24" × 24", respectively, on the VMX42HSi. Both machining centers are equipped with direct-drive servos and an integral spindle with an 18,000-rpm base speed spindle and ABEC-7 ceramic hybrid bearings. Air-over-oil spindle lubrication distributes oil evenly and prevents grease starvation in the bearings. Large linear rails are mounted to a machined shoulder to increase rigidity, and wedge-locked to the frame to reduce vibration. Pre-loaded and stretched ballscrews are anchored at both ends. The automatic toolchanger supports HSK tooling and provides a chip-to-chip time of 4.5 sec.

Both machines feature Hurco’s integrated control optimized for high speed machining with a 64-GB solid-state drive, 2 GB of memory and Dynamic Variable Look-Ahead capable of as many as 10,000 blocks. The control incorporates a 2-GHz dual-core Intel processor with a processing speed ranging to 2,277 bps. The machines are also equipped with UltiMotion, Hurco’s motion control system designed to reduce machine jerk and improve surface finish quality.
