The VC430 VMC from Doosan features a 25-hp motor that generates as much as 12,000 rpm at the spindle and 123.6 foot-pounds of torque. It’s capable of cutting hard materials with tenths precision and producing mirror finishes.
The VMC is equipped with an 180-degree rotating pallet table that is stationary during operation. This enables workpieces to be loaded on one side while parts are machined on the other. Each side of the pallet measures 28" × 18.7" with a 660-lb load capacity. Table indexing time, including clamp and unclamp, is 5 sec.
The spindle is mounted directly to the Fanuc spindle motor for rapid acceleration/deceleration and reduced vibration during high speed operation. Tools are housed in a 40-station, double-arm magazine with 1.3-sec. tool-to-tool times. The ATC’s bi-directional magazine automatically selects the shortest path to minimize out-of-cut times. The dual-contact tool-mounting system provides direct contact between the machine spindle face and toolholder flange face to increase rigidity, precision and tool life.
The VMC is constructed with a one-piece, heavily ribbed Meehanite casting that can withstand the heat and forces associated with heavy cutting conditions, the company says. This design provides a uniform load to the guideways, ballscrews and motors. Linear-motion guideways and high speed servomotors enable high rapid-axis movements, with traverses measuring 1,574 ipm along the X and Y axes, and 1,259 ipm along the Z axis.
A 66-gallon coolant tank is isolated from the machine bed to prevent heat transfer and possible thermal distortion. The VMC features flood cooling, through-the-spindle cooling and an optional coolant chiller. Automatic lubrication to all guideways and ballscrews is delivered by piston distributors that meter the lubricant volume.
