Doosan’s DNM VMCs are available in three sizes: the DNM 400 with a 36.2" × 17.1" table; the DNM 500 with a 47.2" × 21.3" table; and the DNM 650 with a 51.2" × 26.4" table. Each is available as standard speed with a Fanuc 0i controller, or as high speed with a Fanuc 32i controller.
The VMCs are powered by 15- to 30-hp spindle motors. Face milling tests show that the machines can remove 26.4 cubic inches per min. in SM45C carbon steel, 42.2 cubic inches in GC25 gray casting and 109 cubic inches in AL6061 aluminum.
The VMCs feature heavily-ribbed, one-piece beds for stability under heavy cutting conditions, the company says. Fine-grain Meehanite cast iron provides vibration absorption and thermal stability. The table is fully supported by the saddle in all positions with no overhang. All axes have precise linear motion guideways.
Spindle speed ranges to 8,000 rpm (12,000 rpm optional) in the standard models and 15,000 rpm (20,000 rpm optional) in the high speed versions. High speed spindles are driven by a powerful, built-in motor generating as much as 123 foot-pounds of torque. Linear motion guideways and high speed servomotors produce rapid traverses of 1,890 ipm along all three axes of the DNM HS. For the standard models, rapid traverses are 1,717 ipm along the X and Y axes and 1,181 ipm along the Z axis. Tool-to-tool time in the machines’ 30 tool capacity ATC (40 tool optional) is 1.3 sec.
Options include automatic tool length and workpiece measurement; hinge-type, scraper-type or drum-filter-type chip conveyors; a chip bucket; an oil skimmer; minimum-quantity lubrication; through-spindle-coolant system; and more.
