Dosatron offers its water-driven proportional coolant mixer for consistent, automated coolant mixing. According to the company, this product eliminates the need for cumbersome and inaccurate hand batching by automatically mixing a consistent amount of coolant concentrate and water at the required sump concentration. Using the water flow as the energy source to drive a piston and plunger, the system acts similar to a hypodermic syringe, drawing concentrate proportional to the volume of water flow through the body. As changes in water pressure and flow to the mixer occur through the day, the frequency of the piston stroke increases or decreases with those changes, automatically compensating and maintaining a consistent and homogenous solution.
The mixer helps maintain consistent coolant sump concentrations, which is said to increase tool life, since high coolant concentrations waste concentrate and reduce heat carry-off capacity. According to Dosatron, consistent concentration decreases reject rates for higher production efficiency; reduces foaming for greater chip conveyor and oil skimmer efficiency; decreases bacterial growth that could affect coolant performance; and helps to avoid respiratory and skin issues from over-concentrated coolant solutions.
