Bryant Grinder’s Revelations CNC grinding software compensates for common grinding problems with the Flexible Oscillation Stroke Control (FOSC). The Revelations software package sits between the operator or programmer and the FANUC control, enabling the user to correct problems in real time during the grind cycle. Changes can be made in the software without mechanical adjustment. The program automatically generates the G code necessary to make adjustments in part production or remedy errors with feedback, without the need to reprogram macros or canned cycles.
The program’s FOSC function adapts each triangular motion during oscillation to correct bore-grinding problems, including tapered bores, bores that are closed in or opened up on either or both ends, and concave or convex bores. The FOSC uses acceleration and deceleration at the end of each stroke to correct hourglass or barrel-shaped bores. It can also be used to intentionally create a specific grind angle. For wheel corner breakdown, the function changes the endpoints of the Z axis to create longer strokes and compensate when material on either end of the bore is harder.
The FOSC function is said to improve the quality of parts by introducing greater control for precision grinding machines. According to the company, the function reduces cycle times and scrap, and reduces the frequency of user intervention resulting in increased operator efficiency. The feature is also said to maintain surface finish and produce no detrimental effect on wheel wear. Revelations and FOSC are designed for the quality and tolerance requirements of fuel management, bearings, optics, military and medical applications.
