Delcam's 2014 version of its FeatureCAM software featuersnew options for turning, four-axis rotary machining, turn-mill operations, two-axis finishing and probing sequences. According to the company, turning simulation is now more realistic with the ability to program and simulate the movements of the steady-rest and tailstock. Collision detection for both is done automatically for cutting and transfer operations.

Programming both turn-mill and four-axis equipment has been simplified with the ability to change the index axis partway through programming. The user creates a new coordinate system and uses it as the new index axis, rather than moving all aspects of the part. Added strategies for two-axis finishing include the ability to use large stepovers with automatic machining of upstands, continuous spiral machining, support for stock models and automatic avoidance of clamps. FeatureCAM 2013 added the ability to incorporate automated probing routines into unattended machining programs, and the 2014 version offers a new ability to incorporate decision-making with built-in options in the software, rather than handwritten toolpath edit commands.
